Tinajo West

View over the landscape west of Tinajo – in the background the Risco de Famara

Very easy distance hike in the rugged north-west of Lanzarote.

The first half of this hike takes us through agricultural areas west of Tinajo – the capital of the municipality of the same name. Depending on the season we see the fields in different colors, where lentils, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins and many more are cultivated. The details of this so-called dry field cultivation are explained in detail.
Finally we arrive at the foot of Mta. Tenesara (a sacred mountain of the Mahos/Native people), where the second part of our hike continues. Along the border of the lava fields of the eruptions in the 18th century we experience the “hard contrast” between young lava and old landscape very closely – pure Lanzarote feeling.
Finally, we reach the coast of the small settlement of Tenesara via a narrow path, where we take a longer break and marvel at the fascinating surf.

Total time: 4 Stunden
Net-walking time: 2,5 horas
Distance: 7,5 km

Terrain: 1/5 you should be able to walk firmly on uneven grounds
Difficulty: 1/5

Meeting point: Sportstadium Tinajo
Price: 39€.

Arrival with your own or rented car – pick up for an extra charge.
Refreshment possible afterwards – participation is optional.
You should have the following with you: Sun protection, sufficient water (approx. 1 l per person), snack, a light jacket – if it gets windy, photo equipment, sturdy shoes/closed shoes
Please note: there is no possibility to buy drinks or snacks on the way.

Note on the procedure for track walks (in contrary to circular walks): The meeting point is usually also the destination of the hike. After we have met at the meeting point, we leave one or two cars there. Then we drive with one or two cars to the starting point where the hike begins. At the end of the hike we reach the meeting point and take the cars parked there and then drive back to the starting point of the hike to pick up the remaining cars. Therefore we ask you to allow a little more time for this organizational necessity.

Cave hiking “Cueva Naturalistas”

Amazing excursion into a Jameo (lava-tube) in the eastern part of Timanfaya.

Playing with light in the dark

With helmet and headlamp we enter a lava tunnel of the volcano Nueces, that was originated in March 1736 as the penultimate volcano in the big series of volcanic eruptions in the 18th century. We walk, and/or climb, partly through an approximately 550m long section of this tunnel.
This world without (natural) light, in the lap of lava will offer you an unforgettable experience – pure “Lanzarote-Feeling”.

This excursion is a very nice and relatively easy caving tour in the eastern Timanfaya area. Contrary to other caves in Lanzarote, this small excursion is also possible for people who do not like the extreme tours. Most of the Jameo has a stable and relatively flat floor, so that only at the entrance and exit (and once in between) some climbing is necessary.

A dream for every hobby geologist. Lanzarote-Feeling at it’s best.
Also those who can claim to have already learned, hiked and seen a lot about the fascinating world of the volcanoes in Lanzarote will surely experience something completely new and absolutely spectacular here.

Total duration: almost 2 hours incl. breaks
Net walking time: almost one and a half hours underground
Distance: about 1 km, of which about 600m underground
Terrain: 2 of 5 underground – with helmet and headlamp, sometimes climbing over rocks and scree; fear of heights or claustrophobia should not necessarily be an issue, but let us know in advance so that we can take it into account. You must be able to walk stably on uneven ground!
Difficulty: 3 of 5

Price: 28,00 € per person
Pick up at extra charge. Equipment: Helmet + headlamp (can be rented from us for a fee of 8,00€)
Sturdy shoes/closed shoes, sufficient water (approx. 1 l per person)
Refreshment possible afterwards – participation is optional.

Meeting point: Church in Masdache

Diamond-Excursion

Exclusive hike through La Geria and the lava fields bordering the Timanfaya National Park.

We start in La Geria and walk first on farm tracks at the foot of the volcano Diama along the wine fields. Of course we will go into the different aspects of farming in the UNESCO World Heritage Site before we dive into the lava of the eruptions of 1730-1736.
As we will be travelling on private land at the edge of the National Park, this excursion cannot be booked with any other provider or done on your own.

Thus, we really walk right through the lava of the eruptions of 1730-1736 and are fascinated by this bizarre landscape.

We would like to explicitly point out that some passages (approximately 2 x 500m) over the sharp-edged lava can be a challenge for the participants.

On this excursion we will also explain to you the volcanism of the Canary Islands in general, but also the peculiarities of the eruptions on Lanzarote in the 18th century.

Total duration: 3 hours 30′
Net walking time: 2 hours
Distance: approx. 6km

Terrain: 3 out of 5 you should be able to walk stable on uneven ground
Difficulty: 3 of 5

Tinguaton – volcanoes and vine

Caldera Quemada

Along the lava fields of the Timanfaya we first cross an inconspicuous volcanic group before we cross the vineyards near Mancha Blanca. We see and understand the wine cultivation on Lanzarote with all its efforts and agonies that lead to a unique quality. In the further course we come to an old site of the indigenous people. The fascinating history of the aborigines in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands will be briefly explained. Finally, we go up to a volcano – the Caldera Quemada. The view from the edge of the crater into the crater and beyond makes us amazed. On the way back there is a little surprise… And now we experience the lava landscape very closely.

As always, there is a lot of interesting and entertaining information about history, flora and fauna and geology on this tour.

Geological excursion in Timanfaya – guided hike

Timanfaya landscape

We meet near Tinguaton, from where we take a gravel road straight into the heart of Timanfaya. We start our hike at the foot of a young volcano and walk on Picon (with a slight ascent) along an impressive lava river. The first absolute highlight is already waiting for us there. Let us surprise you!

Now we continue along the flank of the volcano Señalo, where a colourful and unexpectedly varied lava landscape awaits us. The many different, bizarre structures created by the volcanic eruptions in the 18th century invite you to take pictures. Now we also have a close look at one of the numerous “side craters” of the volcano. We can marvel at how many different ways there are for the lava to leave a volcano – thus forming interesting elements of the landscape. The further round trip takes place on the other side of the caldera, where easy terrain and a fantastic landscape with great views awaits us.

This landscape stimulates your imagination, touches your soul and makes you feel calm and devotional. A completely different world…

Note: The duration of barely 4 hours is due to the fact that there is so much to see and the participants get detailed explanations about plate tectonics, geology and volcanism and of course also about the many specialities of Lanzarote. In particular, the colourful structures in front of us are explained in detail in an entertaining but nevertheless scientific way.

Promise: This will be one of the most unforgettable tours you have ever experienced! If you think that lava landscape consists only of monotonous black rock and quickly becomes boring, we will teach you a better one today.

Length: about 6 km
Duration: approx. 4 hours including breaks
Terrain: loose scree and lava/picon – you should be able to walk stably on uneven ground. This hike should also be feasible if you are afraid of heights, but please let us know in advance.

Money back guarantee if you don’t like it.
