We begin our hike in Mancha Blanca and first learn about the historical details of the local church. After leaving the village we reach agricultural areas dominated by wine growing. We see and understand the aspects of wine growing on Lanzarote with all its challenges.
Further on, we come to an ancient site of the indigenous people. The fascinating history of the indigenous people of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands is briefly touched during a first rest.
Finally, we walk along the lava fields of Timanfaya around the “Caldera Quemada” volcano, explaining some of the historical volcanic eruptions that created this bizarre landscape in the 18th century. The special features and details of Canarian volcanism are explained very clearly.
Then, after a short rest, we climb up the volcano. The view from the crater rim into the crater and beyond is amazing. On the way back to Mancha Blanca, we experience some aspects of agriculture up close.
On this tour, we combine many interesting and entertaining topics related to Lanzarote, such as history, agriculture, flora, and fauna, as well as the unique geology and volcanism of the Canary Islands.
